A Widow’s Way...
Welcome to A Widow’s Way. We are creating a program to increase Young Life’s capacity to walk with mission friends going through loss. We want to create a safe place for widows to grieve and grow by offering resources to navigate through this new world of widowhood emotionally, spiritually, and financially.
We have found that there are approx 4,000 widows connected to the Young Life family, each one with different experiences and needs. Children of widows (18 and under) constitute over half a billion people worldwide, so we know not only are there widows hurting but teenagers too. Our hope is to offer YL staff and leaders some resources to learn how best to serve widows and their teenagers during such significant loss.
You are not alone:
In the U.S., nearly 2,800 women become a widow EVERY DAY. There are 1 million women newly widowed each year.
U.S. widows age range is between early 20s to late 80s with 59 being the national average.
70% of all married women will face widowhood in their lifetimes. (Women live an average of 15 years longer than their male partners.)
